Marks & Spencer accused of “ruining Christmas” with suggestive festive doughnut
During this cold winter months, there’s nothing better than enjoying a sweet treat with a hot cup of tea.
Many of us love a classic jam doughnut – packed full of sugary goodness and guaranteed to improve your day.
One is never enough – you’re always left licking sugar off your fingers and wanting more.
If you’re a fan of the classic treat, you might want to sit down before you see what Marks & Spencer have produced.
The national chain introduced the new product on Twitter where it left people divided.
A yum-yum doughnut hybrid, this sweet treat is called Santa’s Yumnut.
Marks & Spencer tweeted a picture of the dish with the caption: “Who wants a bite of Santa’s Yumnut™?
“Our yum yum-doughnut hybrids have been given a Christmassy makeover, with delicious flaky pastry layers and a sweet Santa’s belt topping. Find them in our in store bakery.
Well it turned out that lots of people really weren’t sure that they did want a bite of Santa’s Yumnut.
One woman joked: “Anyone climbing down my chimney to offer me their yumnut is getting smacked with a dumbbell, fair warning.”
A second person advised: “Guys, you don’t need to trademark that name; nobody else will want to use it,” while a third blasted: “This has ruined my Christmas already.”
Comedian David Baddiel quipped: “I know that’s meant to be Santa’s standard belt, but given the really quite misjudged name, I’d say it looks more like Santa’s chastity belt.”
Many people were very disturbed by the name.
Comedy writer Aaron Gillies joked: “So you’re submitting a trademark for something called…. yum….nuts”
“Yes” “YumNuts?” “Yes” “You know that sounds disgusting right?” “
Santa’s YumNuts” “No” “For kids” “Get out of my office or I’ll call the police”
Another replied: “Greggs would never.”
If you’re still tempted, the yum yum-doughnut hybrid is now on sale for £1.50 for one or three for £4.
The description on the website states: “Say hello to a special Christmassy version of our iconic yum yum-doughnut hybrid from our bakery.
“With flaky pasty layers and a sweet Santa’s belt topping – yum!
“Available in store from 4 November.”
